"Surrendered" was actually the very first song that I wrote after committing my life for God instead of only grasping some details about Him. That conversion inspired me, as well as Romans 12:2, to write this simple yet misunderstood message to live a life of surrender. Surrender is not a one time event; it is a daily practice. I had my fair share in the world, but God in His grace let me know that He wanted me when I didn't deserve it and wasn't ready to want Him. I had to make a decision that basically boiled down to living for God or me. Many people who call themselves Christians don't fully devote their lives for God because of what they would have to give up, but I have made the choice to surrender each day to the will of God. In the words of Annie Dillard, "How we spend our days, of course, is how we spend our lives."
